Rock Engineering Design

Geo-Design’s experience and expertise is centered on major rock engineering schemes, in particular large span underground openings, deep shafts, high rock slopes, heavily loaded foundations and long tunnel alignments in complex geological environments.

We have world class capability in ground characterisation and use this basis to inform our design. From squeezing to spalling, we use appropriate design methods to understand and account for the ground behaviour for each project case.

• Caverns
  Design and assessment of large span caverns including in sensitive urban environments with low cover and in weak rock masses.
• Tunnels
  Alignment assessments of geological and stability conditions. Design of temporary support, excavation sequence and final lining design. Evaluation of in-situ stress fields for deep tunnels with variable ground conditions.
• Slopes
  Planning and design of high rock slopes, including widening schemes in urban environments. Assessment of slope failures and design of remediation measures.
• Foundations
  Engineering design and validation of heavily loaded foundations on rock for bridges, buildings and other critical structures.
