Hinkley Point C
UK

EDF Energy are investing £13B in constructing two new nuclear reactors and Hinkley Point C, located on the Bristol Channel in Southern England.  When complete the scheme will power six million homes on the UK grid.  The scheme comprises large open excavations to house the reactors and 9km of tunnels extending into the Bristol Channel.

Geo-Design carried out geological and rock mass characterisation to produce models of the anticipated conditions for the onshore tunnels.  The model provided the basis for early stage risk reviews and optioneering with the tunnelling contractor.

Sector: Energy – New build nuclear.
