Highway Tunnels

This highway tunnel project comprised four tunnels with a combined length of 3.5km, excavated below a live highway and other civil infrastructure.  The £270M value contract included large span crossover caverns and maintenance room complexes.

Geo-Design produced a detailed reference design for complex urban highway tunnels and caverns with spans up to 33m, with very shallow cover in bedded sedimentary rocks:

  Development of detailed geological models of the route alignment.
• Detailed reference design
  Construction sequence, temporary support, instrumentation and monitoring.
• Structural design
  Detailed design of the final lining in 2D and 3D.

  Input to specification including ground risk mitigation and sharing.
