The scheme comprised refurbishment and widening of an existing tunnel and construction of a new 3 lane, 1km long tunnel in variable ground conditions.

Geo-Design’s expert team of geologists and engineers provided third party design check and independent check analyses of critical sections, including large span (30m) caverns.

  • Ground modelling
    Geological and hydrogeological evaluation of rock mass conditions. Review of rock mass parameters for design.
  • Design check
    Third-party design check of temporary support, drawings and specifications. Evaluation of construction methods, construction sequence and excavation geometry.
  • Numerical analysis
    2D and 3D discrete element method (DEM) analyses, evaluation of stability reserve in the surrounding rock mass and concrete support elements.
