Gautrain Rapid Rail Link
South Africa

The Gautrain Rapid Rail project comprises a high-speed rail link between Johannesburg, Pretoria and Johannesburg International Airport.  The overall scheme is 80km long and includes 0.5km cut and cover tunnels and 15km of bored or drill and blasted tunnel.  The scheme cost an estimated R31.8 billion and opened fully in 2011, but with a significant proportion opened in time for the football World Cup in 2010.

Geo-Design worked on the project at a number of stages including the detailed design, subsequent remedial grouting works to tackle tunnel inflows and associated post construction claims.
