Senior To Principal Tunnel Engineer

With an exciting pipeline of work on some key infrastructure projects in the UK and overseas we’re looking for a Senior to Principal grade Tunnel Engineer with experience in tunnelling and heavy civils to join our team. Joining Geo-Design

Geo-Design are specialists in rock engineering for underground infrastructure across the civils, hydropower, energy and nuclear sectors, including tunnels, largespan caverns, crosspassages and shafts. Combining engineering geology and hydrogeology expertise, we deliver detailed rock mass and hydrogeological characterisation to produce practical, reliable designs tailored to each geological setting. We support Clients, Consultants and Contractors at all project stages and provide Expert Witness services.

Based in the beautiful New Forest but close to major train stations and a regional airport we are well connected for national and international projects.

The Role

As a senior member of the team, you’ll lead the technical delivery of civil and structural engineering input to tunnelling and deep excavation projects across a variety of sectors. You’ll work with our small, experienced team to successfully deliver projects and help to develop the company over the coming years.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the design and delivery of civil and structural engineering aspects of projects from early concept through to completion.
Lead the structural design of sprayed and cast-in situ concrete linings for tunnels, cross passages, intersections, shafts and slopes based on output from geotechnical analyses.
Provide technical leadership in structural engineering for rock engineering projects and grow a team of engineers and technicians to support growth of the business.
Help manage programme, quality, and budget expectations across projects.
Support business development activities, client meetings, and proposal preparation.
Promote safe, sustainable, and efficient design solutions in line with current standards and regulations.

What We’re Looking For

Degree and Masters qualified in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
Strong experience in a consultancy, contractor, or client-side engineering environment.
Chartered status with ICE (CEng MICE).
Confident delivering technical design work independently and integrating into overall project.
Significant experience in the design of sprayed concrete linings (SCL) and cast-in-situ linings for temporary and permanent tunnel support using both hand calculation and analysis software.
Experience in the specification of sprayed concrete, concrete and reinforcement.
Good knowledge of relevant UK and European design standards, regulations, and industry best practice.
Knowledge of engineering geology and rock engineering desirable.
Experience working collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
Experience with design automation or coding.
Strong communication skills and a friendly, professional approach with clients and colleagues.
A proactive mindset with the ability to manage priorities and support successful project delivery.
Eligible to work in the UK.
Full UK driving license.
