XRL C821 & 822
Hong Kong
The 26km long section of the Express Rail Link (XRL) in Hong Kong connects Hong Kong with Shenzen and Guangzho. The project cost a reported HK$85.3 billion and opened in 2018.
Geo-Design were part of the design team for the C821 Shek Yam to Mei Lai Road and C822 Tse Uk Tseun to Shek Yam drill and blast tunnels, crossovers and shafts. The tunnels crossed several major faults and sections were located below hydrogeologically sensitive valleys.
Sector: Civil infrastructure – Transport tunnels.
- Geological and hydrogeological evaluation
Assessment of rock mass conditions from historical ground investigation, tunnel records and project specific investigations. Hydrogeological impact assessment to obtain approval from Hong Kong Building Department and Geotechnical Engineering Office. - Groundwater impact mitigation
Design of pre-excavation grouting schemes for shafts and sections of tunnels in sensitive areas. Specification of instrumentation and monitoring schemes. - Bifurcation caverns and shafts
Review of design of larger span openings in terms of design assumptions, geometry, excavation sequence and support.
