In 2002, during the development of the N25 to create a single carriageway bypass road at Youghal, Geo-Design undertook an assessment of stabilisation and other mitigation measures to solve rock fall hazards from the newly formed rock cut slope adjacent to the highway.
This involved inspection and detailed mapping of the rock slope in which hazards and modes of instability were identified and both mitigation and stabilisation schemes proposed. Rock fall hazard assessments were undertaken, aided by the use of numerical rock fall simulation, to assess the degree of rock fall hazard to the adjacent access track and public highway.
