Express Rail Link (Hong Kong)

XRL Geological Long Section – Hong Kong

The Express Rail Link (XRL) in Hong Kong is a 26km long stretch of high-speed rail which links Hong Kong to mainland China, connecting Kowloon to the high-speed rail network of China in Shenzhen. Approximately two thirds of the alignment is situated within mined tunnels.

Geo-Design brought their expertise to the project, and undertook a number of exercises to assist in the design and construction of the tunnels:

  • Prepared a strategy for the control of groundwater for mined tunnel length in the long and short term
  • Assessment of hydrogeological and geotechnical impacts
  • Design concept selection and development of specification
  • Review of excavation support for larger spans
  • Specialist review of alignment interpretation and site investigation strategy

Geo-Design were involved in other areas of the XRL construction. For further information, please see: C810 – Express Rail Link – West Kowloon Terminus (Hong Kong)
