UK Marine Tunnels – UK Crossover, Castle Hill Tunnels and Landslip

Client    EUROTUNNEL  (UK)

Comprehensive independent assessment of tunnelling conditions through chalk marl in the 22km Marine Service and Marine Running Tunnels (5.4 and 8.4m dia).  Analysis of stability and inflow conditions in chalk marl rock mass.  Assessment of failures and inflows with particular reference to tunnels at shallow depth (~20m below sea bed) and in weathered – jointed zones.

Review and comprehensive independent design check of UK Crossover Stability with particular reference to water pressure related overstress conditions.

Analysis of stability in relation to representative permeability profile and observed rock mass structure.

Assessment of inter-related tunnelling – landslide phenomena at Castle Hill adjacent to the UK tunnel portals.

Team leader and coordinator for multi-discipline study group advising Eurotunnel.
