St Helier Flood Relief Scheme – Fort Regent Cavern, Jersey

Client: STATES OF JERSEY – PUBLIC SERVICES DEPARTMENT

Investigation, stability appraisal and detailed design – construction supervision of a major underground holding cavern for contaminated flood water and associated tunnels.  The project involved the construction of a fully controlled underground space for contaminated flood water and associated methane gas.  The space requirements were designed for both fluid handling and ventilation compliance.  Permanent stabilisation (including a major sidewall fault zone) was provided by double corrosion protected rock reinforcement fully integrated with shotcrete linings.  Final linings permit automated washdown comprised a reinforced concrete tank (fully integrated with the rock mass surround with a pressure relief system) and smooth finish shotcrete linings over the upper cavern zone and access tunnels.  Full engineering services for the Cavern element from initial concept to commissioning.  Construction supervision and monitored performance evaluation.
